Creative Director

We are a Richmond, VA area marketing agency, seeking a Creative Director who is looking to find a career home with our successful company. We have served clients around the world for over 30 years and are dedicated to exceeding the expectations of our customers.

The Creative Director is responsible for overseeing the visual impact of marketing and design materials and products. This includes drafting creative plans, crafting social media strategies, collaborating with clients, and guiding the graphic design and copywriting teams. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has creative problem-solving skills, is detail oriented, can think outside of the box, and is willing to step into new approaches.

A Candidate must be able to work independently and with a remote/hybrid team and have excellent organizational skills to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for the overall creative direction and execution of both the agency and client marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborating with the Sales Team as needed to help determine the vision for new marketing initiatives.
  • Working/collaborating with the Sales Team as needed to help develop proposals that would meet the marketing/branding needs of potential clients.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager and Marketing Director to discuss the execution of marketing plans to achieve clients’ goals.
  • Establish social media strategies:
    • Improve existing strategies; proactively identify and make recommendations on poor-performing content and social-channel engagement.
    • Develop new posting strategies to include suggesting content and hashtags based on current social media, cultural, and industry trends.
    • Improve social media engagement through successful strategies.
    • Prepare and deliver meaningful analysis of social media metrics and results.
  • Collaborate with clients; briefing and advising them with regard to design styles and formats.
  • Ensure designs and content reflect consistently and positively the client’s brand image and company ideals.
  • Act as liaison between Client and team members to refine and seek approval for print and online logos, graphics, and other artwork as needed for advertisements, flyers, brochures, books, charts, graphs, and illustrations, social media posts, based on knowledge of layout principles and design concepts.
  • Working with Project Manager through regularly scheduled meetings, ensuring the Design Team efficiently keeps projects moving toward timely completion.
  • Review Design Teams’ work and provide direction to designers as needed to meet the client end goals for their projects.
  • Evaluate trends, assess new data, and keep up-to-date with the latest marketing techniques.
  • Direct brainstorming meetings and creative sessions.
  • Shape brand standards and create procedures to ensure all products are brand appropriate.
  • Review and suggest improvements to graphic design work.
  • Review and suggest improvements to written copy.
  • Lead and inspire the team to develop strategically grounded, insight-driven creatives.
  • Attend client meetings as needed.
  • Comply with and execute properly all company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Participates in strategy sessions with the team to determine new or enhanced approaches for systems & processes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong leadership skills.
  • A great eye for graphic design and the ability to suggest design improvements.
  • Strong proofreading skills.
  • General understanding of Photoshop or other image editing software.
  • Experience in basic image editing, with the ability to scale and reduce file size.
  • Familiarity with online meeting tools and communication tools like Skype, Zoom, and Teams.
  • Strong customer focus, commitment to delivering quality solutions, and maintaining effective customer relationships.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player.
  • Effective communication skills that build positive working relationships at all levels.
  • Strong understanding of company missions and goals and how they relate to our customer service standards.
  • Innovative and proactive thinking to improve processes where needed.
  • Good decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze information, evaluate results and implement the best solution to solve problems or challenges.
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to plan, prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An eye for great design, graphic design principles, and typography.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising/Marketing Design or related field preferred.
  • Proven track record of successful Creative Director experience (3 – 4 years).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Capable in both digital and print formats.
  • Working knowledge of building successful marketing and advertising campaigns, including email, social media, print, etc.
  • Computer skills, with working knowledge of the primary Microsoft Office programs; PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook; as well as the ability to navigate effectively in Google Drive equivalent products.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and other pre-employment screening.
